The RHRU is recognised as a leading institution in the field
of HIV/AIDS and reproductive health, and has been designated a
World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre. Since 1994,
the RHRU has provided extensive technical assistance to the National
and Provincial Departments of Health in the field of reproductive
health and HIV/AIDS, including ARV roll out planning, STI’s,
barrier methods, maternal health, high transmission areas and
family planning. RHRU is a research syndicate of the Wits Health
Consortium, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of the
Witwatersrand.
