Determining the prevalence of anti-tat antibodies in HIV infected South Africans and establishing a consensus sequence of the tat portion of the locally circulating HIV genome. R450 000. This is a collaborative study with Dr Barbara Ensoli, Laboratory of Virology, Istituto Superiore di Sanita, Rome. The study is aimed at collecting baseline data in preparation for developing a candidate HIV vaccine.
